En Nuestra América, desde hace más de cinco siglos, los pueblos han resistido una y mil veces la opresión colonial, levantando las banderas de la autodeterminación, la independencia y la soberanía frente al hambre, el saqueo y la dominación imperialista. A lo largo de nuestra historia, el proyecto colonial ha mutado, pero nunca paró: hoy se expresa en las políticas de despojo impuestas por las grandes potencias, especialmente por Estados Unidos, bajo el disfraz del neoliberalismo. En el Sur Global, el cierre del siglo XX estuvo marcado por la profundización del modelo neoliberal —un verdadero plan de guerra económica y social— que en América Latina y el Caribe sólo profundizó la miseria, la desigualdad, la expulsión de comunidades enteras y la entrega de nuestros bienes comunes a corporaciones transnacionales. Frente a esta ofensiva, los pueblos no se rindieron. En distintos rincones del continente comenzaron a emerger voces, cuerpos, territorios organizados para decir ¡basta! A ese nuevo intento de recolonización, las organizaciones populares respondieron con lucha, con construcción, con unidad. Es en ese contexto que nace la articulación de movimientos sociales hacia el ALBA, como una apuesta concreta por una integración desde abajo, basada en la solidaridad entre los pueblos, en el poder popular y en la defensa de nuestras soberanías. Inspirados en el horizonte de unidad que Chávez impulsó con fuerza, comenzamos a tejer una red continental para enfrentar el despojo y construir otro futuro posible.
