Desde esta perspectiva, las reducciones jesuíticas son examinadas no como una experiencia de contradicciones, sino como un intento de articular organización económica, vida comunitaria y defensa de los pueblos indígenas, configurando una forma de modernización que desbordaba la lógica de acumulación del capital. Para Echeverría, esta experiencia revela que la historia de la modernidad no fue un proceso lineal ni inevitable, sino un campo de disputas en el que coexistieron proyectos alternativos para el desarrollo de Nuestra América. Finalmente, la clase establece un diálogo entre esta interpretación histórica y la Teología de la Liberación, recuperando la vigencia del pensamiento crítico nuestro americano para reflexionar sobre las posibilidades de construir proyectos sociales, políticos y culturales orientados por la justicia, la solidaridad y la emancipación.
